70MHz Contest CW – 10th May 2014

I was up in the usual spot in IO81UT for this contest, running 50W from an Icom IC-7100 into a 5 element PowaBeam (from theDXshop.com). I had 21 QSOs in 3 countries, and in fact Scotland was a new one on 4m for me. This was a very enjoyable contest with a few locals active too.

The site I use seems to get decent coverage in all directions, though the rotator is still the armstrong method. I need to come up with some improvements for operating position, anyone with suggestions do let me know!

80m Club Championship SSB – 5th May 2014

I don’t usually enter SSB contests under my own free will, but this series is one where I give points to The Vulture Squadron Contest Group, though not many logs get submitted in a year.

42 QSOs in all across 4 countries. Have been testing out a new antenna for 80m, it’s actually a 40m loop in a triangle, up at 15 feet and fed across the short end with an SGC tuner. Seems to do well for inter-G signals in these contests.
