80m Club Champs CW 14/03/2012

In January 2012 I hadn’t an antenna for 80m, but as I’ve now got a trap dipole for 80/40m I am able to enter these events.

This time I managed 86 QSOs, of which 85 are valid. There was a slight problem with the serial number for one QSO. This was great fun for an hour and a half, until about 45 minutes in and I noticed my main shack PSU was hot enough to cook eggs. A couple of minutes downtime and a substitute PSU saw me to the end. Nothing quite like a bit of excitement.

BERU 2012

BERU is a special contest for many, and 2012 saw the 75th anniversary of this, the longest running HF contest in amateur radio. For the past couple of years I have not been able to make an entry for various reasons but this time I had the new antennas up at QTH M0PCB and nothing was going to stop me, even the glorious weather and watching M0GEJ outside working in the garden!

This year was a record entry for me with 103 QSOs in 21 DXCCs.

Equipment used was:

Elecraft K3 with 100w

80/40m Trapped Dipole

G3TPW Cobwebb at ~23 feet

Plenty of new band slots were worked, with nine VK’s in the log (including VK6LW on 10m just minutes before the end). Only one ZL, but plenty from the rest of the Commonwealth. Sadly I wasn’t able to stay awake long enough to really take advantage of the 80m slot, and by the time I got up and back on the air on Sunday morning at 0630z 80m was quiet again.

Thanks to everyone for the QSOs, maybe one year I will be able to make a proper effort from somewhere in the commonwealth…

144MHz UKAC 06/03/2012

This is the 3rd UKAC event I have entered on 144MHz in 2012, I am ignoring the fact I managed to submit the February log after the deadline. Not a bad spread of QSOs and a new DXCC on 2m to boot!
