Commonwealth Contest 2012 – M0PCB

BERU is a special contest for many, and 2012 saw the 75th anniversary of this, the longest running HF contest in amateur radio. For the past couple of years I have not been able to make an entry for various reasons but this time I had the new antennas up at QTH M0PCB and nothing was going to stop me, even the glorious weather and watching M0GEJ outside working in the garden!

This year was a record entry for me with 103 QSOs in 21 DXCCs.

Equipment used was:

Elecraft K3 with 100w

80/40m Trapped Dipole

G3TPW Cobwebb at ~23 feet

Plenty of new band slots were worked, with nine VK’s in the log (including VK6LW on 10m just minutes before the end). Only one ZL, but plenty from the rest of the Commonwealth. Sadly I wasn’t able to stay awake long enough to really take advantage of the 80m slot, and by the time I got up and back on the air on Sunday morning at 0630z 80m was quiet again.

Thanks to everyone for the QSOs, maybe one year I will be able to make a proper effort from somewhere in the commonwealth…
